Donald S. Carroll, 80, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2021, at his home surrounded by family. 

He was born Jan. 29, 1941, in Lancaster, the son of Thomas and Mildred (Hoffman) Carroll. He graduated from Lancaster High School in the class of 1959, where he stood out as a three-sport athlete and was named the team’s most valuable player in football and basketball in 1958 and 1959. He married Karen Flitsch on Sept. 19, 1959, in Prairie du Chien. Karen later preceded him in death on Oct. 10, 2018. His working career included stints as a milkman in Lancaster, a painter of cranes for Harnischfeger Corporation in Milwaukee, and an auto body man for the Blackhawk Body Shop and Huebsch Chevrolet in Prairie du Chien. He retired from 3M Corporation in Prairie du Chien in 2003 after 28 years of service.

Donald is survived by his three sons John (Linda), Daniel, and Bill (Nora); his daughter, Sarah Riniker; his siblings, Jim of Mauston, Paul (Joan) of Arvada, Colo., Dick (Kip) of Winona, Minn., Larry (Susan) of Circle Pines, Minn., Bob (Nancy) of Crystal Lake, Ill., Rosemary Thompson of Bloomington, Minn. and Kathy (Richard) Lettman of Babson Park, Fla.; his nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his two sons, David and Stephen; his brothers, Walter, Roger and Ralph; two sisters, Dorothy Fishnick and Ruth Irwin, and his granddaughter, Sarah. Donald will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Memorial Service will be Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating with burial in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
