Karen Viola Redman, 61, of Prairie du Chien, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021, into the loving arms of her savior after a courageous battle.

Karen was a devoted mother, adored grandmother and a faithful servant of God’s kingdom. Karen was born in Detroit, Mich., to Carl and Margaret Kumpula. She graduated from Lake Linden Hubble High School in 1978. She utilized her many diverse sets of skills throughout her lifetime; from hairdresser, to a waitress at Huckleberry’s, to her last and one of her most rewarding jobs, as assistant manager at Coulee Cap office. Her most loved job, however, was being a mother and grandmother. She loved the Lord and was an active member of Faith Community Church for many years. She was known for her laugh, her faith and her resilience.

She is survived by her three children, Kristen (Wylie) Douglass, Curtis (Alicia) Redman and Brooke (Fred) Steiger; and her eight grandchildren, Carson, Reese, Lyla, William, Emma, Pearl, Graham, Tessa; her sister and brothers, Peggy (Bob) Schumacher, Don (Sue) Kumpula, Ray (Barb) Kumpula, Jack (Kathy) Kumpula, Mike (Laura) Kumpula; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice, Dr. Olijnyk and the staff at Gundersen Lutheran Clinics, Crossing Rivers Health, UW Madison Hospital, and her home health aides, and lastly to her church family and the community who has supported our mom throughout the years.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Faith Community Free Church in Prairie du Chien. A celebration of her life will be held at the church on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Garrity Funeral Home, of Prairie du Chien, is assisting the family.
