The Prairie du Chien Hoppers fell behind early and couldn’t come back in an 11-1 loss to Viroqua on Friday night in the 19U American Legion Regional Tournament in Stoddard. It was the Hoppers’ second game and their first loss in the double elimination tournament.
Viroqua scored on a single by Griffin Olson in the second inning.
Viroqua scored four runs in the sixth inning. Viroqua’s big bats were led by Clayton Slack and Ashton Swanson, who each had RBIs in the inning.
Swanson led things off on the mound for Viroqua. Swanson surrendered one run on five hits over seven innings, striking out eight.
Colton Thompson was on the mound for Prairie du Chien. The left hander surrendered five runs on five hits over five innings, striking out three. Tommy Mara threw two innings out of the bullpen.
Dylan Coleman, Mara, Maddox Cejka, Owen Oldenburg and Aden McCluskey each collected one hit to lead the Hoppers.
Viroqua had nine hits in the game. Evan Hubatch, Olson, and N. Mathison all managed multiple hits for Viroqua.
