Prairie du Chien High School has been named by U.S. News & World Report at the 30th Best High School in Wisconsin and the second best high school in southwest Wisconsin.

The annual rankings are based on graduation rate, college readiness, Advanced Placement coursework and enrollment.

U.S. News & World Report also named 1,361 out of 24,000 high schools in the country.

“Being ranked number 30 out of more than 500 Wisconsin high schools is a testament to the values the PdC community puts on education. From offering many, many college level courses, to programs that help the neediest students succeed, our school district works to meet the needs of all of its students,” said Principal Paul Weisse.

“Our teachers hold high expectations of their students and then work to help them believe and achieve those goals,” he added. “It is nice to be recognized and this is something to celebrate. With that being said, we will continue to look for innovative ways to help individual students get all they can from their high school experience.”

Prairie du Chien High School’s graduation rate is 95 percent, which 11 percent higher than the national average and higher than the state average of almost 90 percent. The school follows the state of Wisconsin assessment of their high school students’ English, reading, mathematics, science, and workforce skills through ACT and ACT Aspire testing.

Prairie du Chien High School has 369 students with a student-teacher ratio of 12:1. About 88 percent of Prairie du Chien students participate in at least one AP course during their high school career, and 36 percent of those have passed at least one AP exam. At the school, 38 percent of the student population is economically disadvantaged.

Platteville High School ranked 23rd among the Best High Schools in Wisconsin, and stood atop those high schools in southwest Wisconsin. Fennimore High School ranked 32nd, Darlington High School ranked 56th. Mineral Point High School ranked 86th. Pecatonica High School in Blanchardville ranked 99th.
