Central boys track and field season is underway

It was a tough first week for Central’s boys track and field team, as the Warriors finished ninth at the West Delaware Boys Early Bird on March 30 and seventh at the Waukon Early Bird Meet on April 1.

 

At West Delaware, Central sent out three runners in the 100 meter dash, with Corey Weber finishing 13th in 13.01, followed by Sabastion Florek in 14th and Storm Huinker in 18th. 

 

The Warriors also sent out three runners in the 200 meter dash. Florek was the top finisher in 13th place with a time of 27.13. Huinker came in 18th and Sam Fettkether finished 26th. 

 

Sean Wilwert was the lone runner in the 400, finishing in 12th place in 1:06.66.

 

Hunter Grimm competed in the 800, placing 24th at 2:53.27.

 

In one of the highlights of the meet, James Eberhardt finished 10th in the discuss with a throw of 103-03. He was followed by teammates Joel Thiese in 16th, Fettkether in 23rd and Mark Hertrampf in 31st. In the long jump, Wilwert was the top finisher, placing 11th with a jump of 17-05.00. Teammates Dan McGreal and Lane Orr finished 15th and 16th, respectively. 

 

Eberhardt provided another meet highlight in the shot put, where he finished in third place with a distance of 41-08.00. Teammate Ryan Schroeder finished 28th, while Carson McClintock came in 29th and Grimm 32nd. 

 

Central also did well in the 4x100 relay, as the squad of Weber, Brayden Finley, Orr and Huinker finished third with a time of 49.15, just three seconds behind the winners from Lisbon. The 4x200 relay team comprised of Weber, Elliot Kelly, McGreal and Orr finished in 10th place with a time of 1:50.50. In the 440 shuttle hurdle relay, Finley, McGreal, Kelly and Wilwert finished sixth with a mark of 1:20.03. 

 

At Waukon, Eberhardt continued to be the story, earning a third place finish in the discus with a throw of 118-04. He added a ninth place finish in the shot put with a distance of 36-01.00. 

 

Wilwert also provided a top-10 result, finishing seventh in the long jump with a 17-02.00 jump.  

 

In another individual event, the Warriors sent Weber out in the 200, where he finished eighth with a time of 26.58. 

 

In the 4x100 relay, Weber, Finley, Orr and Wilwert combined to finish sixth. This group also ran the 4x400, placing fifth. The Warriors had runners Weber, Finley, Orr and Huinker for the 800 sprint medley, where they finished in fifth place. In the 4x110 shuttle hurdle, Finley, Kelly, McGreal and Wilwert finished fifth. 

 

The Warriors will hit the track next on Tuesday, April 6, at Edgewood-Colesburg, followed by a meet at Postville on Thursday, April 8.
