Two Prairie du Chien-Fennimore gymnasts heading to State Meet
On Thursday, Feb. 18, the Prairie du Chien/Fennimore gymnastics team traveled to Onalaska for the Sectional Meet.
The team placed seventh with the second-highest score of the season, 123.95. River Falls placed first with a score of 140.90. Sparta finished in second place with a score of 136.225.
This year due to COVID, there were only four sectionals instead of the normal five. The sectionals were separated differently this year, making the competition more difficult. There will be five fewer gymnasts per event and two fewer teams qualifying for the State Meet this year.
With that being said, PDC/Fen had two gymnasts qualify for the State Meet. Madilyn Fisher on the vault placed fifth with a score of 9.15. Alyssa Schoepp on the floor exercise placed fourth with a score of 9.025, which was a season-best score. Fisher also placed eighth out of 35 in the all-around with a season-high score of 34.025, which is a great accomplishment.
Outstanding
There were many other stand-out performances. LeiLani Pflueger had a season-best vault with a score of 8.125. Avery Thompson had a season-best bar routine with great form. This is something she has been working hard for this season. Madison Otts added a more difficult leap pass and tumbling pass on the floor exercise. Alexandria Crary improved her jumps on the floor exercise. Reagan Hannah improved her jumps on the balance beam. The team finished off a great season with great improvements.
Onalaska
Schoepp and Fisher will travel back to Onalaska Saturday, Feb. 27 for the State Meet. Good luck to all gymnasts competing.
