The Iowa Print Sports Writers Association, with assistance from the Iowa Football Coaches Association, has announced its all-state high school football teams for 2020. Five MFL MarMac players made the list, including Max Havlicek and Cullen McShane on the Class A first team and Kaden Stocker on the second team. Gabe McGeough and Karter Decker were both third team selections.

Havlicek’s all-state recognition came at defensive back. The senior was one of the Bulldogs’ tackling leaders, with 40 total. He recovered one fumble and was second on the team with five interceptions.

McShane, who was the defensive MVP of Class A District 4, was a defensive utility selection. The junior racked up 82.5 total tackles this season—including 57 solo and 14.5 for a loss—putting him fifth in Class A. He was second in Class A with five fumble recoveries and returned four of them for touchdowns, ranking him first among all players. In addition, McShane snagged two interceptions and led MFL MarMac with five sacks.

A junior defensive back, Stocker secured 20.5 total tackles, 19 of which were solo efforts. He racked up six interceptions for MFL MarMac, putting him first on the team and second in Class A.

McGeough was named to the third team as an offensive utility player. One half of MFL MarMac’s “McDouble” rushing tandem with McShane, the junior fullback tallied 1,100 total yards this season, along with 10 touchdowns, after carrying the ball 156 times. He averaged 7.1 yards per carry. On the receiving end, McGeough caught seven passes for 74 yards.

One of the Bulldogs’ most dynamic players, Decker was recognized as a kick returner. On special teams, the sophomore took two kick-offs and one punt to the house, including a 68-yard punt return that was the third-longest in Class A. Decker accumulated 359 yards in 13 kick returns, averaging 27.6 yards per return. He picked up another 130 yards over six punt returns, for a 21.7 yards-per-return average.
