MFL MarMac runs at South Winn, in final race before conference meet

The MFL MarMac cross country team ran at South Winneshiek on Oct. 6, in the final competition before next week’s conference meet.

Freshman Clare Grau continued to perform well for the Bulldogs, charging to a 22nd-place finish with a time of 22:47.67. Fellow freshman Kaylee Walch had a strong meet too, running the course in 24:16.35 to finish 35th. Freshman Ruby Koeller came in 46th at 26:37.93, while sophomore Alexis Ross, freshman Kaylee Nuehring and sophomore Cadence Weber placed in spots 48 through 50, respectively, with times of 27:31.86, 27:43.23 and 28:24.36.

The Bulldogs were ninth as a team, compiling a score of 194. With 54 points, Decorah and South Winn tied for the top spot.

In the boys race, junior Caleb Nordheim led MFL MarMac, finishing 28th with a mark of 19:39.18. The 36th position went to sophomore Will Koether, who earned a 20:17.92 time. Senior Colin Moses was close behind, in 38th place, with a time of 20:59.48. Freshman Cody Moses and seniors Kylee Bries and Koal Klenk came in 45th through 47th with respective finishes of 24:01.35, 24:21.95 and 25:04.38.

The Bulldogs, with a score of 178, placed seventh as a team. With just 20 points, Decorah finished first.

Now, it’s on to the Upper Iowa Conference meet, which will be hosted by North Fayette Valley this Thursday, Oct. 15. The event will begin at 4 p.m.
