Moser runs to fifth-place finish as MFL MarMac cross country season gets underway

The MFL MarMac cross country team kicked off its season Sept. 3, in the lone home meet at Tri-City Golf Course outside Luana.
The team was led by junior Sydney Moser, who raced to a fifth-place finish with a time of 22:18.00. Freshman Clare Grau earned a time of 23:42.50, placing her 12th. Fellow freshmen Kaylee Walch and Ayla Gerndt finished 20th and 21st, respectively, with marks of 25:53.70 and 26:02.50. Ruby Koeller, another freshman, came in 26th at 28:43.60, while freshman Kaylee Nuehring took the 31st spot with a 30:04.70 time.
With a score of 79, the Bulldogs finished fourth as a team behind Starmont (27), Kee (56) and Central (63). Maquoketa Valley took fifth place with 132 points, while Clayton Ridge and Postville did not have team scores.
On the boys side, junior Caleb Nordheim was MFL MarMac’s top finisher, coming in 13th with a time of 18:42.90. Not far behind, in 16th place, was sophomore Will Koether, who finished in 19:39.60. Senior J.J. Lynd placed 32nd at 22:50.80, while freshman Cody Moses was 34th at 23:28.80, freshman Kole Pape was 36th at 24:14.70 and senior Kylee Bries was 38th at 24:23.20.
The Bulldogs’ team score was 111, placing them fifth. Maquoketa Valley took the top spot with 22 points, followed by Clayton Ridge in second with 62. Starmont had 69 points and placed third, while Postville was fourth with 89 points. Central, Kee and East Buchanan did not field full teams.
MFL MarMac will run next at the Guttenberg Golf Course on Tuesday, Sept. 8, then at North Fayette Valley on Thursday, Sept. 10.
