Catherine E. “Kate” Eckert, 84, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Monday, June 15, 2020, at Prairie Maison. 

She was born on July 23, 1935, in Boscobel, the daughter of Leo and Ella (Bonney) Moravits. 

Catherine attended Boscobel High School and later worked as the town treasurer for Millville Township for many years, along with various other jobs. She loved spending time with her family and taking care of her home. Catherine was well known as “Grandma Peacock” to her grandchildren.  

She is survived by her children, Robert (Jackie), Philip “Jim,” Nick Eckert, Gail (Peter) Langmeier, and Luann (Jered) Glass; a foster son, Leon “Poncho” Wright; a sister, Julia Key; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces, and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bernard and Jim Moravits; a sister, Bernadine Lull; and half brothers, Avery and Keith Sterling.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 24, at 7 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Miranda Klosterboer officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 p.m. to the time of the service. A private burial will be held at a later date.
