Mary “Edna” Cook, 92, of Guttenberg, passed away May 22, 2020, while residing at the Good Samaritan Society of Waukon.

Edna was born on July 5, 1927. She was the second oldest of four children. She grew up in Georgetown, S.C., and has a surviving sister, Barbara Jones, who still resides there.

Edna married the late Faye A. Cook on Dec. 13, 1943. Faye and Edna met in Georgetown while Faye was serving in WWII. That union was blessed with five children. Throughout the years, they made their home in Elkader, Edgewood and Guttenberg, with frequent trips to South Carolina.

Edna loved to be visited by her family and friends. Her family was very important to her. She was on a bowling league for many years. Card club was always a favorite get together with her gal pals, and many joined her at BINGO. Edna was an avid BINGO player. She also got much enjoyment out of visiting the casinos.

She leaves as her legacy five children: Wanda Lacy (Robert Dettbarn) of Guttenberg, Linda Adam (Jim Adam) of Waukon, Mike Cook (Cindy Cook) of Elkader, Kim Cook of Cedar Rapids and Jody Cook of Elkader. She is also survived by her best friend Nell Stone, of Guttenberg.

She also leaves to cherish her memory 14 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Waiting at heavens gate will be her beloved husband, Faye Cook, and her great-grandson, Jonathan, along with many other friends and loved ones.

A private service for family will be held on June 21, at 2 p.m., at Elkader East Side Cemetery.
