Vincent Bayazet Kenneally, 97, of Strawberry Point, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2020, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood. He was born on March 13, 1923, in Cox Creek Township, the son of Earl Leo and Gladys (Hamlett) Kenneally. He was raised and educated in the Elkader and Strawberry Point area and was a 1940 graduate of Strawberry Point High School.

On July 15, 1948, Vincent was united in marriage to Betty Jean Mabel Brockmeyer at St. Mary Catholic Church in Strawberry Point. Bay enjoyed vacationing with his wife as they traveled to Ireland and Hawaii, as well as other destinations.  

Vincent was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, VFW and the American Legion.

He entered the U.S. Army in January 1943 during World War II and achieved the rank of sergeant. Before his discharge, Vincent was training the 10th Army for the invasion of Japan. Vincent was stationed in Scofield Barracks, Oahu, New Hebridges and Guadalcanal until November 1945. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

Vincent attended Iowa State University after his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army. He received an agronomy degree and worked for Williams Company for 32 years.

Survivors include his great-niece, Melissa Murphy (Matt Kaufman) of Sherill; two great-nephews, Patrick Kenneally of Dubuque and Sean Kenneally of Grimes; three sisters-in-law, Evelyn Totman of Edgewood, Beverly Rankin of Independence and Janice O’Loughlin of Independence; a brother-in-law, Ronald Brockmeyer of Ruthven; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Vincent was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, in May 2018; his parents; and two brothers, Patrick and James. 

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Strawberry Point, with a scripture service at 3 p.m. Friends may also call one hour before mass on Friday at the church.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 5, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Strawberry Point, with Reverend John Haugen officiating.

Interment with military rites will be at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Strawberry Point.

Because of COVID-19 concerns, anyone over 10 years of age is required to wear a mask at mass and strongly encouraged to wear a mask at the funeral home visitation.

Memorials may be directed to St. Mary Catholic Church in Strawberry Point and the Wilder Museum.
