Leila Blanche (Moser) Minger, 96, passed away quietly at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette on March 3, 2020.

She was cremated and a memorial service will be held Saturday, April 25, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elkport at 3 p.m.

Leila was born Sept. 12, 1923, in Osterdock to Golda Belle (Hansel) and Leonard Moser. She grew up in rural Iowa and graduated from Guttenberg High School. She attended the Iowa Teacher's College in Cedar Falls and obtained her teaching certificate and then taught school in several of the country schoolhouses in Clayton County. In January 1944, she joined the WAVES of the United States Navy and received her nursing training at the naval training center in Bronx, N.Y. Leila was stationed at Bethesda Hospital in Norfolk, Va., caring for the soldiers returning from World War II. On Jan. 19, 1946, she was honorably discharged, having earned the rank of Pharmacist's Mate Third Class (T).

On Jan. 31, 1946, she was united in marriage to John Lowell Minger at St. John's Lutheran Church in Guttenberg and to this union seven children were born. Leila worked many years in the nursing field including at the Edgewood Convalescent Home, the Guttenberg Hospital, and the Guttenberg Care Center. In her sixties she returned to college at Peosta earning an AA degree in human services and then worked many years in the field of respite care. For many years she was also a correspondent for The Guttenberg Press and the Edgewood Reminder.

Leila was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and later Hope Lutheran Church. She held several offices in the WWI Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary of Post 582 in Colesburg. She was a long-time member of the Rebekah Lodge in Guttenberg. Leila enjoyed her pets over the years, was an avid gardener, enjoyed bird watching, travelling and especially visiting with family and friends.

Leila is survived by three brothers, Clete (Sue) Moser of Alpha, David (Marianne) Moser of Davenport, Elwood (Bev) Moser of Marion; one sister Gloria (Larold) Thompson of Elk River, Minn.; seven children, Bruce (Myrna) Minger of Dallas Center, Brian (Darlene) Minger of Garber, Patty LePage of Monticello, Minn., Penny (Marvin) VansCoy of Elkader, Bradley (Janell Scott) Minger of Fayette, Tom (Beth) Minger of Johnston, and John (Marcy) Minger of Johnston; 39 nieces and nephews. Leila was Grandma Boo to fifteen grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Leila was proceeded in death by her husband; her parents; three sisters; two brothers and several nieces and nephews.
