Clyde Richard Thompson, 81, of McGregor, died Sunday, March 8, 2020, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis. Clyde was born June 13, 1938, in Clayton County, to Dale and Dorothy (Fritz) Thompson. During his younger years, Clyde attended Giard Methodist Church, where he was baptized and confirmed. Clyde first attended Klema Country School, and then later attended and graduated from MFL High School in 1955. He proudly joined and served in the United States Army from Jan. 3, 1957 until Dec. 31, 1962.

Clyde was united in marriage with Sandra LaPointe on April 8, 1965, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. After serving in the military, he came home and worked on the family farm until his passing. Clyde was very active and dedicated to his faith, church, family and friends. He stayed busy doing jobs around the farm when he wasn’t attending activities and events of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Traveling with his wife, Sandy, and flying his airplane were things Clyde enjoyed. He served on the MFL School Board for nine years, was on the Board of Trustees for Giard Township, was a member of Faith Lutheran Church Council, a member of EAA Chapter 368 and a lifetime member of the Froelich Foundation. Clyde also was a leader for adult Sunday school and bible study. Clyde was always willing to lend a helping hand to a friend or neighbor in need.

Surviving Clyde are his wife, Sandy Thompson, of McGregor; his four children, Janet (Mick) Sutherland of Eau Claire, Wis., Patty Roach of Waukon, John (Donna) Thompson of McFarland, Wis., and Jennifer Owens of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Sam Miller, Adam Miller, Jessica Miller (Lance), Jacob (Kellie) Roach, Noah and Ava Thompson, Luke (Jessie) Owens, Blake Owens, Brandon (Amber) Sutherland and Katherine Sutherland; and great grandchildren Alex Miller, Owen and Mason Sutherland, Stephen and Drake Owens and Kashton Hurd. Preceding Clyde in death were his parents, Dale and Dorothy Thompson.
