Paul John Henry Puelz, 77, of Garnavillo, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020, at home surrounded by his family.

Visitation and services were held Saturday, Feb. 22, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Garnavillo.

Private inurnment will be at a later date.

Paul was born on March 11, 1942, the son of Andrew and Anna (Rahmling) Puelz. He attended school in Garnavillo, graduating in 1960 from Garnavillo High School. After school he worked alongside his father, Andrew, before taking over Puelz Heating and Cooling.

Paul was united in marriage to Bonnie Moser on Oct. 29, 1963. The couple resided in Garnavillo through their entire 56-year marriage. Five children were born to this union as well as raising his sister-in-law Brenda from the age of four.

Paul was an avid outdoorsman. Not many summer days went by without a trip out on the Mississippi River on the pontoon boat with friends and family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting Native American artifacts, antique firearms, and traveling across the country to gun shows. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. Paul served on the Garnavillo Fire Department for 35 years.

Paul is survived by his wife Bonnie; five children, Terry (Annie) Puelz of Garnavillo, Tim (Jennie) Puelz of Garnavillo, Paula (David) Ehrhardt of Elkader, Tony Puelz of Garnavillo, and Angel (Bart) Burgin of Garnavillo; eight grandchildren, Taylor (Liz) Burgin, Brittni (Andrew) Beck, Dylan (Daylin) Puelz, Logan (Amanda) Puelz, Kylee (Zach) Schwan, Andrew Burgin, Derek Ehrhardt, and Hailey Puelz; two great-grandchildren, Rhettley Schwan, Daxton Puelz, and two on the way; brother, Steven (Jan) Puelz; sister, Mary (Dennis) Beck; sisters-in-law, Beverly (L’Dean) Berns, Becky (Stuart Summer) Boyce, Brenda (Mike) Landwehr, and brother-in-law, Bob (Barb) Moser along with many nieces and nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Arlene, and brothers-in-law, Bill and Bruce Moser.
