On Thursday, Jan. 16, the Prairie du Chien grapplers welcomed SWC foe Dodgeville to town for some wrestling action. Prior to the meet, Parents Night took place, with all wrestlers and cheerleaders being introduced and recognized before a large group of wrestling supporters. In addition, Bradyn Saint and Colten Wall received plaques for their 100th wins and Tyler Hannah for his 150th win. It was also Alumni Night. Dozens of PdC wrestling alumni were recognized. Tom and Cathie Nelson were recognized as “Fans of the Year.” Tom and Cathie can be seen at most all PdC wrestling events. If they aren’t cheering the Hawks on together, it’s because Tom calls a number of the duals for WPRE radio. The Prairie du Chien Color Guard led the National Anthem and the grappling began.

At 170# and 182#, Bradyn Saint and Jaret Semako received forfeits. At 195#, Ben Riter would use a blast double leg for a takedown for a quick lead. His opponent would get an escape. Ben would try for a throw at the end of period one, but ended up in bad position and was pinned.

At 220#, Tyler “Truck” Hannah would push the pace and run his opponent out of bounds a couple of times before getting a takedown and using a half Nelson for a first period fall. At 285#, senior Brice Martin would get the nod, but would be pinned in the first period. At 106#, Ryder Koenig would score on a single leg takedown. He would then use arm bars to turn his opponent and deck him with a first period fall.

At 113#, Rhett Koenig would use a blast double leg with a couple of different pinning combinations and also record a first period fall. At 120#, Maddox Cejka would end up and the wrong side of a spladdle and be pinned. Luke Kramer received a forfeit at 126#. At 132#, Kurt Wall would crank up the scoring, using a body lock and a couple of turks for a 8-0 lead after one period. In period two, Wall would get a quick stand-up escape, followed by a double leg takedown and a couple more pinning combinations to end it at 16-0 with a technical fall.

At 138#, Matt Rogge would use a single leg takedown to score two, then use an Oklahoma to end his opponent’s night with a first period fall. Chase Fisher, 145#, would score first on a nice fireman’s carry. In period two, Fisher would get a couple of near fall points via a stack to go into period three with a 4-4 tie. Fisher had choice, and went down. Chase reversed his opponent and won 6-4.

Brogan Brewer received a forfeit at 152#. At 160#, Traeton Saint would go into the third period with a 7-4 lead. In period three, Saint would use an outside cradle for back points, score a couple of takedowns, and get three more near fall points to win a major decision 16-6.

In the end, the #3 ranked Blackhawks would prevail 60-17.

Next up for the Hawks will be an SWC dual at Belmont on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Hawks travel to Fort Atkinson for the TKO Invitational. Go Hawks!
