Shirley Jean Guyer, 79, of Luana, passed Jan. 14, 2020. She was born Sept. 29, 1940, to Henry Paul William Mueller and Viola Clarice (Thompson) Mueller. Shirley went to a one-room country school near St. Olaf for kindergarten through sixth grade. She attended seventh through 12th grades at the Luana High School and graduated in the class of 1959.

Shirley married Harold LeRoy Guyer on Oct. 5, 1963. After marriage, she lived on a farm near West Union as a farm wife, then moved back to her home farm by Luana in 1971. She worked a summer at the Elgin Corn Factory, and also loved working at the McGregor Ceramic Shop for 17 years before retiring in 1995.

On Nov. 17, 1984, Shirley was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She did this as a symbol of her personal dedication to Jehovah God. Throughout her life, her faith and reliance on Jehovah provided her strength and a wonderful hope for the future. She was a very active member in the Elkader and Prairie du Chien congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She loved to share the good news of the Bible with people by going door to door or talking on the telephone. Though an only child, she loved spending time with the many brothers and sisters she had in the congregation.

Shirley enjoyed reading, gardening, embroidery, painting ceramics and listening to Elvis Presley's music, and loved her cats. Most of all, she enjoyed being with friends and encouraging others. She loved extending hospitality to others as well as participating in the field ministry and talking to people about the resurrection hope of living forever on a paradise earth.

Shirley is survived by her three children, Sonja (Frank) Hillman, Ramona (Rob) Conrad and Lee (Lydia) Guyer; seven grandchildren, Hailee (Jarrod) Roamer, Seth Guyer, Camille Guyer, Brandie (Jared) Beeh, Brian Conrad, Brittany (Kyle) Vanderhayden and Bobby (Amber) Conrad; six great-grandchildren, Calvin Roamer, Thomas, Waylen, Graci and Abigail Vanderhayden and Lane Conrad.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband and parents.
