Herman G. Sime, 92, of Prairie du Chien and formerly of Ferryville, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020.

Herman was born Nov. 1, 1927, to Herman Sr. and Grace (Helgerson) Sime. After the sixth grade, he stayed home to work on the family farm. He farmed pretty much his whole life, both before and after serving his country in the United States Army. He married Alice Kapanke and together they raised six children. Alice passed away Feb 8, 1971.

Continuing his love for life and friends and family, Herman entered holy matrimony again, this time with Sandra Lee Hauge at the Franklin Lutheran Church on July 6, 1974. Herman loved his family. He also enjoyed his lefsa and lutefisk, and all fish for that matter. He liked fishing and hunting as well. He enjoyed working at the recycling center and, since he collected rare bottles, he might find an occasional treasure. Then there was yard work, always yard work…his lawn was immaculate. God bless our memories of Herman.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Lee Hauge Sime; his children, David P. (Judy), Linda (Dick) Coleman, Donna M. Bolstad, Donald (Susan), Dawn D. (Butch) Hauge, Ruthie A. Williams, Jolene G. Wilson, and honorary son, Kermit T. ‘Terry’ (Kathy) Sime; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Geraldine Faerber, Roger (Elaine) Sime, Janice Roberts, Mary Lou Burton, John (Louise) Sime and Jim (Lila) Sime; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice; a son, Daniel H. Sime; a son-in-law, Rodney Bolstad; and siblings, Kermit Sime, Clarabelle Horner and Arlene Deml.

Funeral services for Herman were Sunday afternoon, Jan. 12, at 2 p.m.at the Utica Lutheran Church, State Hwy. 27. Pastor Nile Sandeen officiated with burial including full Military Honors following in the church cemetery. Friends called during visitations Saturday, Jan 11, at the Vosseteig Funeral Home in Gays Mills, and on Sunday at the church prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials should be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice in Herman’s name. Online condolences may be offered at www.vossfh.com.
