Brighten the holidays in your neighborhood by entering the annual Guttenberg holiday lighting contest. The event is sponsored by the City of Guttenberg and Guttenberg Chamber of Commerce. The contest is open to all utility customers of the City of Guttenberg; winners will receive prizes in the form of a credit on their electric bills. 

There are two divisions: residential and business. In the residential category, the first place winner will receive a $60 credit, second place $50, third place $40, fourth place $30 and fifth place $20. In the business category, first place will receive a $50 credit, second $30 and third, $20.

Entry forms may be picked up on the front porch of the Welcome Center in downtown Guttenberg. Deadline to return entry forms is 3 p.m. on  Wednesday, Dec. 11. Entries should be taken to the drop slot at the Welcome Center.  Homes and businesses MUST be entered with an accurate street address for the judges to consider. 

Judging will take place on Thursday, Dec. 12. Judges will consider design and creative use of lights and decorations, display and placement of decorations and overall presentation.

Businesses that have concerns about selling out items in their lighting display prior to judging on Dec. 12 have the option of taking a photo of their completed display and emaling it prior to judging to: guttenberg@alpinecom.net

Judges will view all displays and also consider any photos submitted.

Judging will take place on Thursday, Dec. 13, at 5:30 p.m. Winners will be announced in the Dec. 18 issue of The Guttenberg Press and on the Chamber website at www.guttenbergiowa.net.
