Rita Kay Lange was born on June 26, 1941, to Kenneth and Margaret Woerm.

She passed away peacefully at her home with family by her side on Nov. 15, 2019, at the age of 78. Rita Kay was raised in McGregor, where she attended and graduated from Mar-Mac High School, where she played basketball and was the majorette for the band. Rita spent many years working as a car hop at the family business, Woerms Wiggle Inn. She married her high school sweetheart, Charles Roger Lange, on Dec. 8, 1962. Together, they moved to Chula Vista, where Roger enlisted in the U.S. Navy until 1966. After enlistment, they returned to McGregor, where they remained for their 53-year marriage. Together, they had four children: David, Debra, Diane and Duane. After moving back to McGregor, Rita was able to stay home for a number of years to raise their children. She then went to work at McGregor Hardware. After working for the family business for years, she started working at Walmart. Rita loved people and enjoyed working in the lawn and garden department. She especially loved being Mrs. Claus at Christmas time. Rita Kay continued to work at Walmart until she retired to care for Roger. Rita Kay’s pride and joy was her family. If there was something going on, Grandma Rita was there. She loved to watch kids, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren play sports, sing or play in concerts, dance or anything else they were involved in. Rita was always there.

Rita Kay is survived by her four children, David (Jennifer) Lange, Debra (Jim) McCluskey, Diane Lange (Torey Bartels) and Duane (Heather) Lange; 18 grandchildren, Holly (Jeremy), Ryan (Heather), Justin, Britni (Sara), Charlie (Kelsey), Stephanie (Eric), Kole (Brianna), Kenny, Connor (Rachel), Ben, Nate, Blake, Brady, Jack, Samuel, Aden, Ella, and Kinsley; 17 great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Darin, Easton, Sylas, Elizabeth, Madison, Sophie, Bryson, Mack, Elijah, Jax, Madalyn, Kylee, Bella, Brecken, Liam and Paul; one sister, Linda Banfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Roger Lange in 2016; brother Donald Woerm in 1998; mother Margaret Woerm in 1998; and father Kenneth Woerm in 1982.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, at the First Congregational Church in McGregor, with Pastor William Gentry officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m., with services at 11 a.m. Lunch to follow in the church hall. The family would like to send a special thank you to the St. Croix Hospice staff for the exceptional care given to Rita at her time of need.
