Del attended Central Community School, Elkader. He was united in marriage to Karen Roeder on December 15, 1979, at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader. Del was employed as a construction worker running heavy equipment for Carlsons, Tesar, and Moynas. He was especially happy driving semi trucks for Ray’s Excavating until he finally retired.

He enjoyed his hobby farm, collecting tractors, ATVs, and tinkering with Farmall and Allis Chalmers tractors. He liked the adventures he took riding his Harley motorcycles, Pioneer UTV and the green Rebel buggy. Spending time with his family making fun memories is what he loved the most. His dogs were his favorites, along with hunting, being outdoors and watching westerns. He did enjoy visiting with people and loved to tease. He had a way of nicknaming special people he became close to. He left a lasting impression with everyone he met, and always tried to make people smile.
