Allen Michael Edward Nieland, 64, of Guttenberg, passed away peacefully Friday, May 17, 2019, at home, surrounded by family.

The family will receive family and friends from 3-7 p.m., Thursday, May 23, at the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

A private scattering of ashes will be held in the timber in which he felt most at peace.

Allen was born on July 13, 1954, in Guttenberg, the son of Norbert “Norbie” and Donna Kann Nieland.

Allen attended and graduated from Guttenberg High School with the Class of 1972. Just a few short weeks after graduation on June 17, 1972, Allen was united in marriage to Kathy Niehaus. Unto this union they were blessed with two children, Jody and Alex.

Allen began farming on his parents farm but quickly found a love for cutting timber. He joined Livingston Lumber Co. and was a Veneer cutter for 20+ years. Afterwards, Allen did over the road trucking for a few years before joining I.U.O.E. Local 234 where he was a heavy equipment operator and worked on the ground crew for many windmill projects. Even though he left his veneer cutting behind, he never lost his love for the woods or being outdoors.

When Al was not working you could find him coaching his kids or attending their sporting events and activities. If Al wasn’t there, you could find him outdoors hunting or fishing on the Ol’ Mississippi. Over the years he played golf, but he could never be without his favorite extra-long putter.

Al was a past member of the Guttenberg Community School Board, Past President of the Guttenberg Jaycees, Guttenberg Recreation Director, and a coach for the Guttenberg Youth League during the 70’s and 80’s.

Allen is survived by his wife Kathy; children, Jody (Brekka) Fosdal of Epworth and Alex Nieland of Guttenberg; grandchildren; Sierra Nieland (special friend Garrett Pfeiler) and Hunter Fosdal; sisters-in-law, Trudy Daily of Colesburg and Twila (Rick) Rosacker of Guttenberg; nieces and nephews, Jill (Shawn) Bakey, Jayden and Keeley, Jason Daily, and Nicole (Steve) Miller, Brennan, Nicolas, and Amelia; furbabies; Harley and Ariel; along with many family and friends.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Peggy, Patty, Roger, and Kenny; brother-in-law, Robert Daily.

A special thank you to St. Croix Hospice, especially Kathleen, Dawn, Deacon Pat, and Mary; Holden Cancer Center; especially Dr. Berg, Sharon and Ashley; Dr. Hoffmann and staff; and Jim Pfaffly.
