Error propels Prairie boys to win
A walk-off error propelled the Prairie du Chien Blackhawk baseball team to a decisive and dramatic nonconference victory over West Salem, 3-2.
The game was tied at 2 when Ryan McGrath hit a towering pop fly into the tricky wind that the West Salem left fielder managed to get a glove on, but couldn’t hang onto as Josh Dyer scored the winning run from second base.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Jacob Joy started the game for the Blackhawks. He went 5 innings, allowing 5 hits and 2 runs while striking out 2. Joy was followed by Hunter Davis for the sixth inning. McGrath was the winning pitcher for PdC. He went 1 inning allowing no runs, hits or walks.
PdC had 5 hits on the day. Tyler Smock, Jon Nicholson, and Davis had 1 hit each. McGrath had 2 hits.
The PdC Blackhawks are now 6-0 on the season and 1-0 in the SWC.
