Adeline Meier
January 5, 1931-January 12, 2019

Adeline Meier, 88, of Clermont, Iowa, died Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital, West Union, Iowa. Adeline was born January 5, 1931, to Arthur and Reta (Nace) Wilken in Strawberry Point, Iowa. She graduated from Strawberry Point High School in 1949 and went to work at Union Bank and Trust in Strawberry Point. While working there Adeline met Lloyd Meier, who worked at Security State Bank in Guttenberg, Iowa.

Adeline was united in marriage with Lloyd Meier on August 17, 1950, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Strawberry Point. Three children were born to this union. The family moved to Clermont, where Adeline went to work at Johnson’s Hardware as a clerk and bookkeeper. Through the years, Adeline also worked as a bookkeeper for Taylor’s Service Station and several other local businesses. In January 1991, Adeline went to work as a house manager for Opportunity Homes in Decorah and Elkader, and because of her caring nature she was loved by the residents and their families. She retired from Opportunity Homes in September of 2006.

Adeline was a wonderful cook, always making or baking something for events. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, boating, spending time at the river, mushroom hunting and playing cards. Adeline had a passion for music. She nurtured this love of music in her family, developing a strong legacy of musicians and homes full of music-making for generations to come. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and St. Peter Rosary Society, Business and Professional Women’s Club, Clermont Historical Society, American Legion Auxiliary and the Clermont Community Club. She was also a volunteer for many civic events.

Adeline Meier is survived by her three children, Kathryn (Tim) Schultz of Rice Lake, Wisconsin, Lori (Terry) Wear of Fountain Valley, California and Kevin (Barb) Meier of Indianola, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Sarah (Paul) Colombo, Kent Schultz, Kurt Schultz, Lindsay Wear, Chris Wear, Mark (Alyssa) Meier, Nick Meier, Jake Meier and Haleigh Meier; five great-grandchildren, Elena Marie and Atticus Colombo, Ryker and Paycen Schultz and Caroline Rose Meier; and one sister, Evelyn Foley of Edgewood, Iowa.

Adeline was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd on January 24, 2018; her parents, Arthur and Reta Wilken; and a nephew, David Carpenter.

Visitation was Monday, January 21, 2019, from 4-7 p.m. at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clermont, Iowa and one hour before Mass at the church on Tuesday. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at St. Peter Catholic Church, Clermont, Iowa with Rev. Don Komboh as the celebrant. Inurnment followed at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery, Clermont, Iowa.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clermont, Iowa assisted the family with the arrangements.
