Arlyn Arthur Schroeder, 69, of Monona, died Monday, Sept. 3, in the home he grew up in, built by his parents in 1959, following a two-year-long battle with Multiple Myeloma. He was born May 25, 1949, to Loren and Arleen (Maker) Schroeder in Oelwein. Arlyn was baptized on July 10, 1949, and confirmed June 14, 1964, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. He graduated from MFL High School in 1968. Arlyn proudly served in the United States Army from April 3, 1969 to April 2, 1971, during the Vietnam War.

Arlyn was united in marriage with Karen Kammerer on Sept. 12, 1970, at Pilgrim EUB Church in Monona. Throughout the years, Arlyn was an active member of the Living Faith United Methodist Parish, serving as Sunday school teacher, trustee, council chairman, endowment and the prayer group. He also served on the NEITEL Board and the Farm Service Board, both for 18 years. Arlyn was Master Pork Producer in 1995. He worked for the United States Postal Service in Monona and Urbandale for many years. Arlyn enjoyed gator rides with his grandkids as well as attending their sporting and music events. He also enjoyed woodworking, convertible rides, traveling, playing cards with his family, playing UNO with the Farm and Home gang and cribbage, while in La Crosse.

Arlyn is survived by his wife Karen of Monona; three sons Aaron (Jennelle) Schroeder of Farmersburg, Aric (Joyce) Schroeder of Waterloo and Andrew Schroeder of Waukon; five grandchildren Jaxton, Emme and Rylan Schroeder and Austin and Max Schroeder; sister Karilyn (Keith) Hawkins of Nevada; and one brother Delvin (Deb) Schroeder of Monona.

Arlyn was preceded in death by his parents Loren and Arleen Schroeder; brother Harlan Schroeder and sister in infancy, Janice Schroeder.

Visitation was held on Friday, Sept. 7, at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona. Funeral service was on Saturday, Sept. 8, at Living Faith United Methodist Parish, Monona, with Rev. Deb Parkison as the officiant. Burial with military rites followed at Giard Cemetery.
