Sandra J. Kann, 80, died April 11, 2018, following a brief, but courageous battle with lung cancer.

Funeral services were Saturday, April 21, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Harold McMillin. Visitation was before services at the funeral home.

Inurnment was at the Guttenberg City Cemetery.

Sandra was born on June 23, 1937, to Gene and Lois (Hyde) Eberhard in Dubuque.

She was confirmed and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and later a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She received her education and graduated in 1954 from Garnavillo Consolidated Schools. She was active in basketball and was a great player in the 1953 and 1954 Candy Kids basketball champions. After graduation, she attended Iowa State Teachers College. In 1955, she married Richard J. Clefisch and to this union was born four children. They later divorced. On June 19, 1972, she married Verdus J. Kann and to this union a son was born. They enjoyed 45 years of fun, excitement, laughter and love together, until her death.

Sandy worked many jobs throughout her life. She worked on the farm, sold insurance and real estate, as well as volunteer work for The American Cancer Society, all while raising her family. Sandy and Verdus moved to Wyoming, Minn., in 1992. She worked at Lake Area Bank in Forest Lake, Minn., for ten years and retired in 2002. They moved to Mankato, Minn., in 2010 to be closer to their son, Joe and his family.

Sandy loved many things. She loved the outdoors. She loved cooking and baking. She had a special touch for decorating and would always be excited to help her daughter, Shelley with any ideas. She had a love of dogs, especially her grandpup Ellie for whom she and Verdus would doggy sit each day. Sandy loved being with friends, whether going out to dinner and a movie, or playing cards or taking vacations. She continued to be passionate about basketball, as evidenced by her enthusiasm in watching and supporting her youngest grandchildren, Josh and Sammy during their basketball games. Sandy had a strong love for her family and it was the most important part of her life.

Left to cherish Sandy's memory are her husband, Verdus Kann; children, Steven (Judy) Clefisch of Guttenberg, Scott (Brenda) Clefisch of Dubuque, Stuart (Kristi) Clefisch of Garnavillo, Shelley (Artie) Foster of North St. Paul, Minn., and Joseph (Mary Jo) Kann, of Mankato, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Nichole (Mike) Plagge, Travis (Lindsey) Clefisch, Zachary Clefisch, Jacob Clefisch, Luke Clefisch, Nathan Clefisch, Joshua Kann, and Samantha Kann; six great-grandchildren, Sage Plagge, Braeden Plagge, Chayse Plagge, Katelynn Clefisch, Makenzie Clefisch, and Sylvia Clefisch. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Gene Eberhard, and her mother, Lois Klofanda.
