LaVern Hampton, Jr., 81, of Glen Haven, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Grant Regional Health Center, Lancaster. 

 

He was born on Aug. 31, 1936, in North Andover, the son of LaVern “Vern” and Gertrude (Kirschbaum) Hampton. He graduated from Bloomington High School in 1954, and was employed at the Creamery in North Andover. Junior later worked in Madison where he spent several years in the construction of John Nolan Drive, the Belt Line (Hwy 12/18), and Yahara Golf Course. 

 

On June 27, 1964, he was united in marriage to Rose B. Adler at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien. After their marriage, Junior began his career at Pride Seed Corn Company in Glen Haven in production, maintenance, and driving truck. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomington and the Glen Haven Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years. Junior was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, woodworking and a good game of cards. He also had a shoe repair business in his home. 

 

Survivors include his loving wife, Rose; a daughter, Sue (Brian) Reuter; two sons: Tom and Roger; five grandchildren: Jacob, Josh, and Nate Reuter, and Emma and Carly Hampton; his siblings: Walter (Mary); Lois Dechow; Pete (Marcia); Loren “Butch” (Linda) Hampton; many nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, Junior was preceded in death by his brother, Norman “Jiggs” (Delores) Hampton; a sister, Betty, and a brother-in-law, Calvin Dechow.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Jan. 22, at 11 a.m. St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial will be in Charlotte Cemetery, Glen Haven Township. Family and friends may call on Sunday, Jan. 21, from 1 to 4 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington and on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Junior Hampton Memorial Fund has been established. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Bloomington is serving the family.
