Bennie E. Maier
Bennie Eugene Maier, 85, of Garnavillo, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, June 17, 2017, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.
Visitation was Monday, June 19, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home.
Inurnment will be at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island, Ill.
Bennie was born on Aug. 11, 1931, in Milan, Ill., the son of Ben and Alice Maier.
Bennie grew up in the Rock Island Ill., area where he became an Eagle Scout and eventually graduated from the Rock Island High School with the class of 1949. On April 27, 1957, Bennie was united in marriage with Marilyn Wigant. They moved to Cedar Rapids in 1958, where Bennie owned and operated Cedar Rapids Tool and Die for many years.
Bennie was a softball pitcher for a couple of teams in Cedar Rapids. He was also a life member of the Otter Creek Gun Club, and avid sportsman who loved to fish, hunt and trap. After retirement, Bennie and Marilyn moved to Guttenberg where he enjoyed his sports; Chicago Cubs, NRA, Ducks Unlimited, Iowa Hawkeyes and making trips to the casino.
Bennie is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marilyn; brother, Kenneth Maier of Hillsdale, Ill., and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
