Seneca girls
show dignity, pride
By Ted Pennekamp
The Seneca girls volleyball team ended a fine season Friday at the State Volleyball Tournament at the Resch Center in Green Bay.
The girls finished with an overall record of 26-10 after being defeated by Newman Catholic of Wausau 25-20, 25-10 and 25-6 in a state semifinal. Newman Catholic went on to become state champions for the fourth time in a row.
“Our season was a dream season,” said Seneca Coach Dawn Ray. “It was fun to watch them evolve all season long. They began to believe and then realized their potential. We also have the best, most amazing fans who traveled five hours to watch us at state.”
Ray said that even when they were behind by a lot, the Seneca team never got down on themselves.
“Win or lose, we hold our heads high,” said Ray. “When the girls did something good, they just rocked. I couldn’t be more proud. They showed dignity and pride in themselves, the school and the fans. They had a good showing.”
