David W. Nagel, 72, of Eastman, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 1, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. 

 

He was born Oct. 21, 1944, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Lester and Christie (Aspenson) Nagel. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a helicopter pilot. He married Nancy Entwisle on Oct. 7, 1966, in West Union, Iowa, and she preceded him in death. He married Marla Nasseth on July 26, 1997, in Eastman. David farmed in the Seneca/Eastman area and drove a milk truck for many years. He worked as a logger and did cattle transfer for Tom White farms. David also worked at the Eastman Lumber Yard and in construction for several years. 

 

He is survived by his wife Marla, of Eastman; his children JoEllen Nagel, of Monona, Iowa, Stephen (friend Michelle) Nagel, of Prairie du Chien and Krystle Nagel, of Eastman; his brothers Edward (Nola) and Ronald (Joanne), both of Eastman, Charles (JoAnn), of Prairie du Chien, Terry Joe (Luba), of Wauzeka, Myron (Diane) and Randy (Connie), both of Prairie du Chien, Timothy (Tammy), of West Salem, Gerald (Brenda), of Viroqua, and Lawrence (Arlene), of Dodge Center, Minn.; sisters Wanda (Mark) Patzner, of St. Charles, Minn., and Racheal (Stan) Breuer, of Glen Haven; stepbrothers Thomas (Donna) Payne, of Janesville, Michael (Darlene) Payne, of Tomah, and Jeffery Payne, of La Crosse; stepchildren Trisha Bishop, of Eau Claire, and Aaron (Rachel) Bishop, of Chaseburg; stepsisters Linda Miles, of La Crosse, Mary (Larry) Iverson, of Mindoro, and Janice Payne, of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; brothers and sisters-in-law Dale DeGroot, Kathy and Norma Payne and Delose Goodrich; four grandchildren David, Kayden, Lauren and Bailey, along with two step grandchildren Amelia and Alex

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant children Patrick and Deanne; three brothers Gordon, Raymond and Melvin; sisters Donna DeGroot and Sandra Goodrich; and stepbrothers Jerry and Norman Payne.

 

A memorial service will be Friday, Nov. 4, at 5 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel in Prairie du Chien, with Rev. Lynn Schreck officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. A private family interment will be later in the National Cemetery in Eastman. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 p.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
