James "Jim" Boetius McCarty
James Boetius McCarty, of Fort Myers, Fla., died Oct. 12, as the result of a tragic bicycle accident.
Jim was born on Dec. 30, 1939, and raised in Shorewood, where he attended St. Roberts and Marquette University High School. He attended Regis College in Colorado, graduated from Marquette University and received a masters degree in social work from Loyola University in Illinois.
Jim was a parole and probation officer for the state of Wisconsin. “Mac,” “Jim,” “Judge,” “Uncle Jimmy” were all nicknames for a funny, loyal, frugal Irishman, who loved the Packers, the Brewers, golf, peanuts and chocolate chip cookies. He was an avid bridge and crossword puzzle player. Jim had many friends, both in Florida and Wisconsin.
He is survived by his dear companion of 12 years, Sue Fleming. He is also survived by his former wife, Maureen McCarty; his sisters Joanne McCarty (John dec), of Farmington Hills, Mich., Mary Ellen McCarty, of Big Cedar Lake; and brother William E. McCarty (Janet), of St. George, Utah; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the honorable James E. McCarty, bankruptcy judge of the eastern district of Wisconsin (Josephine); his grandparents Boetius Murphy (Mary Ellen); William E. McCarty, Chairman of the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors (Margaret); many aunt, uncles, and his grand nephew Jake McCarty.
There will be a memorial mass on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at 11 a.m., at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, in Fort Myers. A memorial mass at St. Roberts Church in Shorewood will be held at a later date. Memorials in Jim’s name may be made to Harry Chapman Food Bank, 3760 Fowler St., Fort Meyers, FL, 33901. For having Jim in our lives, we will remember him always in loving gratitude.
