Guttenberg residents can look forward to spooky Halloween traditions in the coming weeks.

Ghouls' and Goblins' Night Out

Each October, Guttenberg merchants get into the Halloween spirit with Ghouls' and Goblins' Night Out. The sixth annual event, scheduled for 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, gives adults the opportunity to celebrate Halloween and support Guttenberg businesses.

Shops will be open late and shoppers (as well as shop owners) are encouraged to dress in costume. Businesses often feature spooky sales on clothing, gifts, and specialty items, deadly discounts at participating restaurants, devilish door prizes, and cauldrons of complimentary refreshments while shopping.  Participants who arrive in costume may qualify for even better deals.

A petrifying poker run will lead shoppers through participating businesses, and will end with a prize awarded to the best five-card hand at Kaffee 1858 at 7 p.m.

Trunk-or-Treat

Children and adults alike will enjoy Trunk-or-Treat, back this year after a successful premier last Halloween. Parents and Halloween-spirited community members are invited to the Clayton Ridge Elementary School playground to participate in the event. Trunk-or-Treat is held during regular Trick-or-Treating on Monday, Oct. 31, from 5-7 p.m.

What's a trunk-or-treat? Think tailgating combined with traditional trick-or-treating. "During a Trunk-or-Treat, people gather in a large lot to park their cars, open their decorated trunks (or pick-up truck beds), and pass out candy to young trick-or-treaters. Trunk-or-Treats are a growing trend, because they provide a safe, family-oriented environment, and are a fun way to get involved in trick-or-treating if you live in a neighborhood that doesn't get a lot of Halloween traffic," said Chamber  of Commerce director Emily Sadewasser.

Teens and adults can also use the opportunity to get in on the Halloween fun, dressing up on a theme to match their trunks. Children's books, games, or movies make great themes, and even classic cars can get in on the fun. Participants will get to vote for their favorite trunk.
