The Clayton County Board of Supervisors approved the second reading and waived the third reading of an amendment to rezone property along the Great River Road at a meeting on Monday, Aug. 29.
At a previous public hearing regarding the rezoning of approximately 754 acres of land from A1 (agricultural) to M2 (heavy industrial), several county residents spoke in favor and against the amendment, which will allow underground mining in the area.
The amendment will now go to the Clayton County Board of Adjustment in October or November. That board can add restrictions, or fine tune restrictions already in place in the amendment.
