team beats Hornets

The Prairie du Chien boys soccer team hosted the Richland Center Hornets for Parents’ Night Tuesday evening at the Bluff View pitch.

The Blackhawks started the game slow and only 2 ½ minutes in, let a Hornet run slip through for an early score and a quick 1-0 deficit.

Opportunity abounded the remainder of the first half, with 19 shots on goal by Prairie, but none of the shots found their way into the net.   Halftime introduction of parents and the rousing support of the Blackhawk cheer team brought new life to the squad.

In the second half, Prairie played with control, quickness and consistency, dominating the ball on their side of the field the majority of the period.

In the 55th minute, Preston Hendrix crossed to Jack Stoeffler for Prairie’s first score. In the 65th minute, Hendrix took it in himself and nailed the shot for a second score. Then, in the 70th minute, Chas Sagedahl hammered a perfect arch on a corner kick, sending the ball in untouched for the 3-1 lead.

With a double rainbow hanging over the Bluffs, Prairie rotated through the roster the remainder of the game, maintaining poise and control and sealing the victory 3-1.

Goalie Wesley Schwager had 9 saves on the night. The hawks are home again this Thursday hosting Viroqua’s Driftless United Knights at 5 p.m.
