Gertrude Helen Louise (Groth) Anderegg, 99, died Aug. 6, 2015, at Chosen Valley Nursing Home in Chatfield, Minn.

Visitation was before services at the church.

Memorial services were Saturday, Aug. 15, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, conducted by Rev. Hillary Berns-Kite.

Inurnment was at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Guttenberg. Pallbearers were Randy Fischer, Marsha Knudsvig, David Anderegg, Tresa Devaney, Tonya Anderegg, Elena Watson, Erin Sportsman and Robert Sportsman.

Gertrude was born Sept. 18, 1915, on the family farm near Garber, daughter of William and Suzanna Helena (Hoyer) Groth. She graduated from the Guttenberg High School and taught school in Jefferson Township #5. She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Guttenberg and later at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, Iowa.

On June 28, 1937, she was united in marriage with Otto Anderegg at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Guttenberg. They farmed for many years in the Millville area. 

Survivors are one son, Harley (Mary) of Guttenberg, two daughters, Esther Emily (Guy) Ghan of Marquette and Nadine Sportsman of Wycoff, Minn.; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren and one brother, Clarence (Virgene) Groth of Garber.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Evelyn Walke and Esther Groth; two brothers, William Donald Groth and Lawrence Groth in infancy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, 108 W. Oak St., Garnavillo, IA, 52049; St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 301 N. Adams St., Garnavillo, IA 52049 or St. Paul Lutheran Church, 214 S. 1st St., Guttenberg, IA 52052.
