Dean Meyer was born on February 15, 1933, on the family farm north of Garnavillo, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Mildred Heiden Meyer. Dean received his education at the country school and Garnavillo High School. On October 3, 1965, he was united in marriage with Ann Haase at St. John’s Church in Sumner.

Dean Meyer worked the family farm and raised award-winning Angus beef cattle. In his free time, you could find him dancing the Texas Two-Step at a local country music dance hall or watching the St. Louis Cardinals play ball on television. Some of his fondest memories included pitching in the town league, his country school days, and meeting his lovely wife, Ann, at one of those country music dances. His children remember many evenings of laughter at the dinner table and summer days catching fly balls he hit to them.  Many remember his humble, sweet heart, his wry smile, and his beautiful roses at the county fair.

Dean passed away peacefully on June 29, 2015, at the Guttenberg Care Center. Dean is survived by his three children David (Diane) Meyer, Julie (Rolando Rodriguez) Meyer, Kathy Meyer; and two sisters, Nancy Mobley, and Susan Abbott. He is also survived by three grandchildren Shelby and Elliott Meyer, and Oliver Rodriguez. Dean was preceded in death by his beloved wife, father, and mother.

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Garnavillo, IA, where the family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 2, 2015, and one hour before service at church. Funeral services were at St. Paul Lutheran Church Garnavillo, IA, at 10 a.m., Friday, July 3, 2015. Rev. Gary Hatcher officiated. Interment was at Garnavillo Community Cemetery.
