Virginia K. Romanek, 86, a longtime resident of Wauzeka, passed away Sunday, June 28, with her family by her side, at the Prairie Maison Care Center in Prairie du Chien. 

She was born Feb. 5, 1929 in Orion Township near Muscoda, the daughter of Edward and Albina (Roh) Bomkamp. She grew up in the area and graduated from Wauzeka High School in 1947. She married LaVern Atkinson on April 28, 1948 and to this union five children were born. After LaVern’s tragic death in 1970, Virginia later married Thorold Romanek on March 17, 1973. She worked at various jobs and retired from Advance Transformer in Boscobel. She enjoyed yard work, spending time with family and celebrating holidays. Virginia was a member of Sacred heart Parish and the American Legion Auxiliary in Wauzeka. 

She is survived by her sons, LaVern (Betty) Atkinson Jr. of Richland Center, Donald (Joan) Atkinson and Michael (Janice) Atkinson both of Wauzeka; her daughters, Deborah (Gary) Stuckey of Blue River, Sarah (Mark Kudlacik) Atkinson of Tomah; thirteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren and four great- great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, July 2, at 11 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, Rev. Victor Feltes officiating with burial in the Wauzeka Cemetery both in Wauzeka. Friends may call on Wednesday, July 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien where there will be a wake scripture at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday, July 2, from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
