Vernon Henry Henning, 74 of rural Farmersburg, Iowa, died Friday, June 5, 2015 at the Elkader Care Center in Elkader, Iowa. He was born on January 30, 1941, in Farmersburg, Iowa to Arno and Erma (Radloff) Henning. Vernon was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg. He graduated from M-F-L Community High School and was in the United States Army from 1963-1965.

Vernon married Sharon Fischer on September 20, 1969. To this union, three children were born. Together they lived in rural Farmersburg until his death. He was a farmer most of his life. After retiring from farming, he worked at Cabelas for seven years. Vernon enjoyed truck tours of Clayton County and especially time with his grandchildren.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Sharon; his daughter, Diane (Kyle Stangeland) Walz of Monona; his son, Brian (Dawn) Henning of Walford, Iowa; grandchildren, Kellie and Eric Walz and Cooper and Paisley Henning; step-granddaughter, Ashley and step-great-grandchildren Lilly and Landen; his sisters, Evelyn Wacker and Arleta Henkes of Monona and Phyllis Toberman of Janesville, Wisconsin and a brother, Dennis Henning of Farmersburg.

Vernon was preceded in death by a stillborn son; his parents; parents-in-law, Grant and Oceania (Eylers) Fischer, a sister-in-law, Judiene Fischer; brothers-in-law, Dennis James and Robert Wacker.

Visitation was Sunday, June 7, 2015 from 3 to 6 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg and one hour before service time at the church on Monday.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 8, 2015, at St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg with Rev. Erika Kielstrup officiated.Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery with full military rites.
