Leah Jane Koch, 35, died Friday, May 1, at the Dove Healthcare Center in Eau Claire. She passed in the loving arms of her mother and husband after a long and difficult battle with brain cancer.

She was born on Feb. 19, 1980 in La Crosse to Lenny and KarLen (Gifford) Heisz.

Leah grew up in Eastman. Despite her battles with brain tumors as a teenager, she was always determined to have fun and live life. She never let anything slow her down. While in high school, Leah participated in many musical and performance activities. She would spend her summers as a horse trail tour guide, which was a huge passion for her. She met new friends and traveled to Europe, and had plenty of other exciting experiences as well. The enjoyment continued when she met the man who would be her husband and the father of her children. Leah and Ben have 2 beautiful children, and have built an inspiring family and home together.

Leah worked as a daycare provider for the first several years after starting her family, and then decided to change gears by going to RCU (Royal Credit Union) which she was quite enthusiastic about.

Leah was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was an active and amazing mother who loved to play with her children, loved singing and being on stage, enjoyed getting together with friends and having fun, and loved spending time with her husband Ben, who was also her best friend. She was a very outgoing and positive person with a magnetic personality and amazing sense of humor, and wasn’t afraid of anything. There was never a dull moment for those spending time with her. She was very passionate about life, a gift to the world, and she enhanced the lives of all who knew her.

She is survived by her parents, Lenny and KarLen (Gifford) Heisz; her loving husband Benjamin of Eau Claire; her two children Ava Jane Koch and Ivan Leonard Koch; one sister, Karen Hafke of Portage; two brothers Jeff Heisz of Steuben, and Jeremy Heisz of Eastman; and many treasured friends.

Funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 7, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1712 Highland Avenue, Eau Claire, WI 54701. Father Don Meuret will officiate. Visitation will take place at the church Thursday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. Private family burial will take place at a later date.
