Marquette’s Business and Tourism Director, Katrina Moyna, said at the April 21 city council meeting that she’s planned a community visioning session for Monday, May 4, at 6 p.m., in the community center.

“I want community members to vote on what they want to proceed with in the community,” Moyna said.

She invites Marquette residents and business owners to attend and share what they’d like to see happen, whether it’s drawing in new businesses, hosting more festivals or community events, building trails, attracting live bands or holding community picnics. The goal is to plan what a dream Marquette would contain and decide how the city can capitalize on its assets.

Timber Ridge Park

City Manager Dean Hilgerson said the Timber Ridge Park equipment, which was ordered last fall, will be installed Friday, May 8. Work on the park shelter will also commence around that time.

Flea market

The council approved sending an application to the Iowa DOT for usage of the green space along the bridge approach for the Marquette flea market. If approved, the permit would be good for the whole season.

Nuisance abatement

At its September meeting, the council targeted 211 North St. as a potential property for nuisance abatement and agreed to table discussion about the location until its April meeting. Last week, they agreed not to proceed with nuisance abatement measures, instead choosing to continue watching the house until it poses more of a safety hazard.

Address changes

The council gave the go-ahead for the city to continue with address changes on The Bench. The changes will better match residents’ addresses with their homes’ physical location, allowing emergency personnel, delivery services and others to better find them. City clerk Sue Weipert said all those affected by the changes will again be notified and advised on what they’ll have to update and who they’ll have to notify. New street signs will also eventually be installed.
