Reverend Bruce L. Hanson, 75, of Garnavillo passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 13, 2024, in Santa Ana, Calif.

Visitation was Sunday, April 21, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg.

Funeral services were Monday, April 22, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg.

Burial was in the Garnavillo City Cemetery.

The mechanisms initiating migratory behavior can be triggered by a combination of changes in day length, outside temperatures, changes in food supplies, and genetic predisposition.

St. Mary/IC alumni reunion set for Saturday, June 8

An all-school alumni reunion celebration will be held on Saturday, June 8, at St. Mary's Brinkmann Hall in Guttenberg. Anyone who has ever attended St. Mary's/Immaculate Conception School is welcome.

The last reunion was held in 2019.

This year there will be a mass at 5:30 p.m., a social hour beginning at 6:15 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m.

Linda S. Ludovissy, 56, of North Buena Vista passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital in Guttenberg.

Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, at Immaculate Conception Hall in North Buena Vista. Visitation will continue from 12-12:45 p.m. at the hall prior to funeral mass.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, conducted by Rev. Marvin Bries.

The Guttenberg Library Foundation is hosting Iowa’s Storyteller, Darcy Maulsby, to share information from her newest book, Explore Iowa’s Lost History on the Titanic. 

The event will take place on Thursday, April 25, at 7 p.m., at the Guttenberg Municipal Building third floor auditorium located at 502 South First St. in Guttenberg.

Council approves budget for coming fiscal year

The Guttenberg city council at its regular monthly meeting on Apr. 8 approved the budget for the coming fiscal year and set a hearing for an amendment to this year's budget.

The new budget estimates $38,029,036 in expenditures and $36,049,534 in revenues, with a tax levy rate of 15.44826 per $1000 valuation. The current levy rate is 15.7619 per $1,000 valuation.
