The Prairie du Chien Lady Blackhawks softball team defeated Ithaca 20-1 on Friday thanks in part to Allison Kennedy, who drove in nine runs. She had a single in the first, a grand slam in the first, and a grand slam in the third.

Micheal Froehlich competes in the Atlas Stones as John Holley coaches and cheers him on.

Two Prairie du Chien residents traveled to Stoughton, Wis. to compete in the annual Syttende Mai Strongman Viking Games on May 15. 

John Holley and Micheal (correct spelling) Froehlich went head-to-head with some of the strongest athletes from Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, and Illinois.

Prairie grapplers do well at Freestyle/Greco State Championships


Seven Prairie du Chien middle school and high school wrestlers show off their impressive hardware from the Wisconsin Wrestling Federation’s Freestyle and Greco Roman State Championships. From left: Bryce Lenzendorf, Mason Baumgartner, Porter Kossman, Luke Kramer, Rhett Koenig, Matt Rogge, and Ryder Koenig.

Rhett Koenig, a sophomore, recently won titles in both Freestyle and Greco Roman at the Wisconsin Wrestling Federation’s Freestyle and Greco Roman State Championships. Koenig did this by winning both titles at the 126# weight class. This past February, Koenig won the 113# weight class at the WIAA Division 2 State Tournament, which is folkstyle wrestling. By winning all three styles, Koenig has achieved the highly coveted “triple crown” in the state of Wisconsin.

Seven Prairie du Chien wrestlers, from both the middle school and high school teams, recently participated in the Wisconsin State Freestyle and Greco Roman Championships. The Freestyle Championships were held Saturday, May 8 and the Greco Roman Championships were held Sunday, May 9. Both events were at the Wisconsin Dells Sportsdome in Wisconsin Dells.

River Ridge walloped visiting North Crawford 16-1 in 3 innings in a nonconference softball game Friday afternoon.

The Lady Timberwolves scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first inning, 7 in the second, and 5 in the third en route to the victory.

Belmont defeated host River Ridge 11-1 in a Six Rivers West baseball game Friday afternoon at the new River Ridge athletic complex.

The Braves upped their record to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in conference action.

Blackhawk golfers at House on the Rock

The Blackhawk golf team traveled to the House on the Rock Resort and Golf Course (aka: The Springs) designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. on May 4. This was their second visit in the last four days. River Valley hosted an 18-hole invitational on Saturday, May 1 with 16 teams participating.

The Prairie du Chien Blackhawks bested visiting Onalaska 4-0 in a non-conference game on Friday night.

Maddox Cejka was the winning pitcher going 6 1/3 innings, allowing no runs and only 2 hits along with hurling 12 strikeouts in a dominant outing. Colton Thompson finished the last inning, inducing a game-ending double play.

Seneca’s Philomena Hall gets a start off of second base Saturday against host Prairie du Chien during a triangular at Bluff View. Barneveld was the other team at the event.

On May 1, the Prairie du Chien Lady Hawk softball team hosted a triangular with Seneca and Barneveld.

The first game was against Seneca. Prairie beat Seneca 11-3 in 5 innings.
