Prairie du Chien wrestlers defeat Lancaster

On Thursday night, the Prairie du Chien Blackhawks wrestling team traveled to Lancaster for an SWC dual meet. The D2, #4 ranked PDC Blackhawks were looking to get the new year started with a great showing. 

The dual started at 113#, where the Blackhawks would have to forfeit.

Prairie du Chien-Fennimore Gymnastics traveled to Viroqua Tuesday for a nonconference dual meet. The girls finished second with a team score of 124.025, a season best, and Viroqua had a score of 130.40.

The Prairie du Chien-Fennimore gymnastics team traveled to Mount Horeb on Saturday, Jan. 8 for a seven-team invitational. 

There was a lot of tough competition there that day.

Prairie du Chien grapplers at Bi-State


Prairie du Chien wrestlers who placed at the Bi-State Classic: Rhett Koenig (first), Luke Kramer (ninth), Ryder Koenig (eighth), Brogan Brewer (eighth), and Blake Thiry (10th).

Rhett Koenig secures a takedown in the quarterfinals against his opponent from Tomah. Koenig would go on to win by fall in this match on his way to a Bi-State title.

The 39th Annual Bi-State Classic, hosted by Holmen High School, was held on Dec. 29-30 at the La Crosse Center. After a one-year hiatus due to Covid-19, wrestlers and wrestling fans were more than excited for the great atmosphere and excellent wrestling this tournament brings every year.

The River Ridge boys basketball team hosted a round-robin tournament featuring Barneveld and Iowa Grant Tuesday morning and afternoon. 

River Ridge and Barneveld squared off to start the tournament at 11 a.m.

Lady Hawks dominate Westby

The Prairie du Chien girls’ basketball team hosted Westby on Dec. 21.

With a 10-day break between games, the Hawks came out hungry with a 14-4 run. They kept the momentum going into the half 42-15 while pulling down 13 offensive boards in the first half.

Prairie/Fennimore gymnasts host invitational


Madilyn Fisher of Prairie du Chien was third on the varsity vault.

Jasmine Olmstead placed fourth in the Junior Varsity All-Around.

Leilani Pflueger was sixth on the Junior Varsity Floor Exercise.

On Saturday, Dec. 18, the Prairie du Chien-Fennimore gymnastics team hosted their inaugural eight-team JV and Varsity Invitational. This was also the team’s first meet of the season.

Timberwolf Owen Bedward fought hard before eventually being pinned by MFL MarMac’s Keith Anderson in the 113-pound match.

At 160 pounds, River Ridge wrestler Levi Wehrle lost a tough 8-7 decision to East Buchanan’s Chase Fults.

The River Ridge wrestling team competed in a triangular at MFL MarMac on Dec. 21. River Ridge lost to East Buchanan 63-12 and MFL MarMac 72-9.

Thursday night was the SWC opener for the Prairie du Chien wrestling Blackhawks as they played host to their foes from River Valley. The #6 ranked in D2 PDC Hawks would not disappoint, as a raucous crowd was on hand to show their support. It was a big night as the future of Blackhawk wrestling, the youth and middle school, were announced, along with many alumni and all of the great sponsors of the PDC wrestling program.

Hornets nip Wolves

The Timberwolves’ Logan Drone pressures the Hornets’ Caydon Lomas.

Wauzeka-Steuben came back in the second half to nip River Ridge 55-53 in a nonconference basketball game between two top area teams Monday night. 

The Timberwolves built a 30-19 halftime advantage, but the pesky Hornets took the second half 36-23 to gain the victory.
