Vivian Meyer

 

Vivian Margery Laura Meyer, 84, of Garnavillo, Iowa, died Friday November 8, 2013, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. Vivian was born on the family farm north of Garnavillo to Edwin and Bernice (Schumacher) Milewsky on February 18, 1929. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Garnavillo where she remained a lifelong member.

Lloyd “Midge” Amsden

On Tuesday, November 5, 2013, Lloyd “Midge” Eldon Amsden was called home to be with his Lord.  His strong faith and his loving family sustained him in his last battle. Lloyd was born on June 16, 1925, to Peter and Amanda (Waterman) Amsden. He was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Elkport, Iowa. Lloyd graduated from Elkport High School with class of 1946, and later served in the United States Army.

Lyle Hamlett

 

Lyle W. Hamlett, 92, of Edgewood, died Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at his home.  Lyle was born December 27, 1920, on the family farm east of Wood Center, the son of  Elias T. and Alta (Whitehead) Hamlett.  Lyle attended rural school near Wood Center.

Wayne Miene

 

Wayne Julius Ewald Miene, 69, Monona, Iowa, died Monday, November 4, 2013, at Veteran’s Health Care System in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born September 11, 1944 to Fred William and Frances (Gilson) Miene in Postville. Wayne was baptized on November 12, 1944 and confirmed on March 30, 1958 at St. Paul Evangelical Church, Postville. He graduated from Postville High School in 1963.

Harley Radloff

 

Harley Charles Radloff Jr., 75, of Postville, Iowa, lost his battle with mantel cell lymphoma on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at his home in Postville surrounded by his wife and children. Harley was born on December 5, 1937, in rural Luana, Iowa, to Harley and Mary (Gentz) Radloff Sr. He graduated from Postville High School in 1955, where he served as senior class president. Harley was voted homecoming king and was very active in sports during high school.

Donald T. Newbern

On Tuesday, October 29, 2013, Donald T. Newbern was called home to be with his Lord. His strong faith and his loving family sustained him in his last battle. A service was held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg, Iowa, at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 1, 2013, by Pastor Shane Anderson. Jean Pensel was the organist. Military honors were conducted by American Legion Post 373, Guttenberg and the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. Inurnment was at 1:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Clayton Center.

Terry Charles Schmidt

 

Terry Charles Schmidt, 56, Farmersburg, Iowa, died suddenly Friday, October 25, 2013, at Central Community Hospital, Elkader, Iowa. Terry was born on February 11, 1957, in Prairie du Chien Wisconsin, to Carl (Bud) Elmer and Vergean Mae (Freitag) Schmidt. Terry graduated from MFL High School with the class of 1975.

Terry Charles Schmidt

 

Terry Charles Schmidt, 56, of Farmersburg, died suddenly Froday, October 25, 2013. Visitation was Monday, October 28, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home, Monona. Funeral services were Tuesday, October 29, at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg. A full obituary will appear in the November 6 issue of the Clayton County Register.

Margaret Thiese

 

Margaret Ann Thiese, 88, of Charles City, formerly of Elkader, passed away Monday, October 21, 2013, at Cedar Health in Charles City, IA.  As were her wishes, she was cremated. A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.

She is survived by a brother, Norman Thrasher, nieces and nephews, and close friends Ron and Marilyn Venz and family.

Judy Troester Manning

 

Judy Ann Troester Manning, 60, passed from this life on September 16, 2013, at her home in Spring, Texas.  Judy’s cremated remains were buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery during a burial service held on Saturday October 19, 2013.

Judy was born on August 5, 1953 in McGregor, IA.  She was the fourth child of Raymond and Marjonell Troester. Her early years were spent on the farm with her family.  Judy lived in Elkader with the Hamiltons, a loving family, from 7th grade until graduation from High School.
