Violet Reynolds Bernhardt

 

  Violet Gwendolyn (Reynolds) Bernhardt, 102, of Guttenberg, IA, died Thursday, December 26, 2013, at the Guttenberg Care Center. She was born on March 31, 1911, in Agency, Iowa, the daughter of Homer Harrison Reynolds and Clara Belle (Rodibaugh) Reynolds.

Larry Gull

 

Larry Lew Dettmer Gull died peacefully from complications following a stroke at the Guttenberg Care Center, Christmas morning. Larry was born July 17, 1933, on a farm near Garnavillo, the son of Harry E. Gull and Evelyn (Dettmer) Gull. Larry was an adventurous young boy, taking flying lessons at age 9. Larry trusted Jesus Christ as his Savior on December 6, 1942. This was the most important event in his life and directed his focus to the end.

Rose Clark Turner

 

Rose Clark Turner, 89, of Monona, Iowa, recently of rural Clyde, Ohio, died at Elmwood Assisted Living in Fremont, Ohio on Tuesday, December 10, 2013. Rose was born near Elkader, Iowa, on September 1, 1924, to the now deceased Joel and Emma (Johnsrud) Clark. She was a 1942 graduate of Elkader High School and received a degree in medical technology from Macalester College in 1946.

Fay Lorraine (Decker) Thein, 82, of Garnavillo, IA, died Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, Wis. She was born on November 9, 1931, in Boise, Idaho, to Milo and Vella (Boardman) Decker.

Anita Kenneally

 

Anita Rose Kenneally Cowie of Prairie du Chien, WI, formerly of Elkader, died Saturday afternoon, December 7, 2013, at the Guttenberg Care Center in Guttenberg. 

Anita was born on the family farm in Lodomillo Township, Clayton County, on January 13, 1917. Her parents were Adeline Viola Dillon and David Edward Kenneally. She attended the Henry School in Lodomillo, Elkader High School and Iowa State Teacher’s College. She taught country school as a normal training teacher prior to entering ISTC. After ISTC, she taught at Hartford and Tipton, IA.

Anita Cowie death notice

 

Anita Kenneally Cowie, 96, a long time Prairie du Chien, WI  resident, formerly of Elkader, died on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Guttenberg Care Center. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 11 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elkader, with burial following in the church cemetery. A luncheon will follow the burial at St. Joseph Parish Hall in Elkader. 

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Aldean Kuehl

 

Aldean Kuehl, 91, Elkader, Iowa, died Friday, November 29, 2013, at the Elkader Care Center, Elkader, Iowa. She was born February 16, 1922, in rural Garber to Harley and Zala (Lee) White. Aldean was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Colesburg. She attended Mound School #4 in Mallory Township, graduated from Colesburg Consolidated School in 1938, and attended Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls.

Kenneth Charles Breitsprecher

 

Kenneth Charles Breitsprecher, 92, of Farmersburg, Iowa died Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at the Elkader Care Center. 

Kenneth was born on December 29, 1920, near Bismarck, Iowa, in Farmersburg Township, the son of Louis and Alice (Strien) Breitsprecher. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Farmersburg. He graduated from Farmersburg High School 75 years ago in 1938.

Kornelia Pady

 

Kornelia Pady, 91 went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on November 26, 2013. Connie was born in Mukachevo, UK (this was Hungary when she was born) on November 8, 1922. She was the eighth child of Ference and Ester Nedeczey-Ruszak. She spent her early years at home with her family. She attended a German Catholic boarding school and went on to teachers’ college. She had just begun teaching when the schools were closed due to the war. For a short time she worked for the Red Cross as a nurses aide.  Eventually the fighting from the war sent her across Hungary to her sister’s home then both of them went on to be refugees in Bavaria, Germany. It was there while working at the American PX that she met Roy Pady and married him on April 19, 1948.

Bollman death notice

 

Raymond Moody Bollman, 80, of Swisher, died Friday, November 22, 2013, at Honey Creek Cottages in Swisher. Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Ray is survived by his wife, Joanne; three children, Patrick (Kathy) Bollman, Julie Bollman and Lisa (Todd) Lenth; five grandchildren; three step-children, Deb (Dan) Covell-Dalziel, Steve (Brenda) Carter, and Brian (Luanne) Carter; six step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
