Richard Pritchard

 

Richard LeRoy Pritchard, 77, died Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. The son of Walter and Margaret (Monnahan) Pritchard, he was born November 11, 1936, near Elgin, Iowa, the fifth of 12 children to be born into this family. He attended country school in Brainard, Iowa. For the first few years Richard worked at Hodgemann’s Construction Company, paving roads in the Twin Cities area, until uniting in marriage with Frances Stray, in May of 1964, at Decorah, Iowa. To this union five children were born. Together they farmed over the years in Strawberry Point, Littleport, and Garber Iowa area.

Richard Stodola

 

Richard J. Stodola, 81, of Elkader, died Saturday, January 25, 2014, at his home in Elkader. He was born March 11, 1932, in Barron, WI, to Adolph and Carrie (Posta) Stodola. He graduated from Rice Lake (WI) High School in 1950. He could build a home from bottom to top. Richard was owner and operator of his own construction business for over 35 years; first Four Square Construction and then Stodola Floor Sanding.  

Richard was united in marriage to Mary Lynn Lauing on February 19, 1956, in Sarona, WI. Four children were born to this union.

Richard J. Stodola, 81, of Elkader, died Saturday, January 25, 2014, at his home. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 1, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Kingdom Hall, Elkader. Friends may call after 1 p.m. until service time on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at Kingdom Hall, Elkader. A full obituary will appear in the February 5 issue of the Register.

Jane Adelia Myers

 

Jane Adelia Myers, 62, of Elkader, died January 10, 2014, at her home. She was born April 5, 1951, in West Union, the daughter of Wendell K. and Effie I. Bachtell Myers.

She was a graduate of Arlington High School and Upper Iowa University in Fayette. Jane was the owner and producer of JAM Productions and owner of the on-line radio station, Mind Mastery Radio.

James Joseph Miehe

 

James Joseph Miehe, 82, of Elkader, died Friday, January 17, 2014, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader. He was born August 28, 1931, in Oelwein, to Elmer and Marie (Keleher) Miehe.

Jim graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Elkader. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict from December 18, 1951, until he was honorably discharged on November 16, 1955. He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Carlsen on March 15, 1952. Jim was in the implement business with his father and brothers serving the Elkader area for 30 years.

Gladys A. Conboy

 

Gladys Alvina Conboy passed away in Atlanta Ga. on December 5, 2013 at the age of 94. She was born September 11, 1919 in Read Township, Clayton County, Iowa to John Schrampfer and Florence Mentzel Schrampfer. She spent her childhood in Bellevue, Dubuque, and on a farm in Clayton County.

Walter L. Saur

 

Walter L. Saur, Ret. Brigadier General, 86, of Oelwein, Iowa died on Saturday morning, January 11, 2014, at his home with family members at his side.

Walter Leroy Saur was born January 27, 1927, in Cresco, Iowa, the son of Walter Emil and Anna Emily (Bahr) Saur. The family moved to Elkader where Walt graduated from Elkader High School in 1944. In January 1945, Walt enlisted in the Navy. He served during World War II in the Pacific at Iwo Jima, Okinawa and in China.

Aldora E. Hustad

 

Aldora E. Hustad, 98, of Elkader, died Friday, January 10, 2014, at the Guttenberg Care Center. She was born February 26, 1915, in Otter Tail County, MN to Tosten and Karen (Brekke) Hagen. Aldora was baptized April 4, 1915, and confirmed November 17, 1929, both at Elbow Lake, MN. She graduated from Elbow Lake MN, High School with the Class of 1933, and then attended business school for two years.

LuNida Miller

 

LuNida Iola Miller, 94, of Farmersburg, Iowa, died Saturday, December 28, 2013, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born March 28, 1919, on the family farm. LuNida is the daughter of Alivin and Adalia (Marting) Vogt. She was baptized June 1, 1919, at St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg and also confirmed there by Rev. Adix. LuNida graduated from Farmersburg High School in 1937 and attended college at Upper Iowa University in Fayette for two years for her business degree.

Maxine Donna Weyant

 

Maxine Donna Weyant, 88, of Elkader died on Thursday, December 19, 2013, at the Elkader Care Center in Elkader.  She was born on October 11, 1925, in Strawberry Point to Herman and Zelma (Steel) Otterbeck.  Maxine graduated from Edgewood High School.

Survivors include a daughter, Kay (Richard) Troester of Elkader; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several  great-great-grandchildren.
