Duane Charles Delbert Lamker

 

Duane Charles Delbert Lamker, 84, of Monona, Iowa, died Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. He was born on March 10, 1929, to Alvin and Cora (Breitsprecher) Lamker in Monona, Iowa. Duane was baptized on March 31, 1929, and confirmed on March 10, 1943, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. He graduated from Monona High School.

John LuVern Palas

 

John LuVern Palas, 59, of rural St. Olaf, died Thursday, August 15, 2013, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. He was born on July 18, 1954, in McGregor, to John and Elvera (Marmann) Palas. He graduated from Central High School, Elkader.

On June 19, 1976, he was united in marriage to Christine Heimann at Zion Lutheran Church in Clayton Center. Three children were born to this union.

Verdeen Waterman

 

Verdeen Emil Charles Waterman, 79, of Elkader, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 10, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester, Iowa.   

Verdeen was born November 4, 1933 to Martin F. and Pearl M. (Maier) Waterman in Elk Township, Iowa. He graduated from Littleport High School in 1953. He was united in marriage to Loretta Pugh on January 23, 1955, in Rockford, Iowa. To this union five children were born.

LaVera Smith VanDuyn

 

LaVera Louise Smith VanDuyn, 87, of Littleport, Iowa, died on Sunday, August 4, 2013, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home.  She was born on November 18, 1925, in rural Littleport, the daughter of Edward F. and Helena Wilhelmina Dorothea ”Minnie” (Nightingale) Hakert.  LaVera was raised in the area and attended Littleport rural school.  She was confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church in Littleport.

Violet Ornellia Landsgaard Thompson, 85, passed away on July 12, 2013. A memorial service will be held on August 10, 2013 at Saint Andrew Christian Church in, Olathe, KS at 3 p.m. A private interment will follow at a later date in Springfield, MO.

Helen Lucille Patrick

 

Helen Lucille Patrick, 82 of Elkader, Iowa passed away Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Central Community Hospital, Elkader. A wake was held at Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader, Iowa on Thursday July 25, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11.

Helen is survived by her two sons Edmund (Melissa) Patrick and Harlann (Joyce) Patrick of Elkader and Mrs. Gary (Joyce) Edwards Patrick of Jacksonville Beach, FL; grandchildren, Heather Patrick, Benjamin Patrick, Christi Edwards and David Hemby.

Merlin H. Geuder, 87, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 15, 2013 at Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center. Graveside services to return both Merlin and Irene to their place of rest will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, at Guttenberg City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Ronald McDonald House, 730 Hawkins Drive in Iowa City, or to the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home, 313 Elkader Street, Strawberry Point, IA 52076.

Linda L. Phelps

 

Linda L. Phelps of Elkader died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader.  She was born April 28, 1949, in Elkader, to Irvin and Mildred (Boege) Phelps. She graduated from Central High School, and attended one year of beauty school in Iowa City.

She was united in marriage to Bruce Berens on May 15, 1971. One son was born to this union.

Vera Minger Patrick

 

Vera (Minger) Patrick, 87, of Guttenberg, died Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Guttenberg Care Center. She was born the daughter of Albert and Blanch (Penhollow) Minger, February 17, 1926, in Guttenberg.

Vera graduated from the Guttenberg High School, taught country school, worked for Muters Co Original Enders Co. for eight years and was a homemaker for many years. On November, 11, 1946, she was saved.
