Douglas Arthur Carl Buckman

 

Douglas Arthur Carl Buckman, 54, of Sugarland, Texas, and former of Garnavillo, died September 21, 2013. He was born April 13, 1959, in Prairie du Chien, WI to Don and Donna (Robinson) Buckman. During his younger years, he played baseball and golfed. Douglas lived in Garnavillo through high school, where he ran cross-country and was on the track team. He graduated from Garnavillo High School in 1977. He then attended Iowa State University, from 1977-1981, and graduated from ISU with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.

Michael John Nading

 

Michael “Mike” John Nading, 34, of Corydon passed away Thursday, September 12, 2013.

Michael was born September 14, 1978 to Vickie and William Nading in Manchester, Iowa.  Michael was baptized in infancy at the United Church of Christ in Elkader, Iowa. He was a 1997 graduate of Seymour Community High School and also served three years in the U.S. Army, where he met and married Ann Marie Maidher in Honolulu, Hawaii, March 2000. To this union two boys were born: Zebulun and Zachary.

Elsie Skaar Fagerholm

 

Elsie Marie Skaar Fagerholm was born April 5, 1922, on the family farm north of Hayward, MN, one of four siblings, to Peder J. and Elsie (Lunde) Skaar. She died peacefully September 5, 2013, in Rochester, with her family at her side. 

Elsie was baptized and confirmed in the Hayward Lutheran Church. She attended country school before graduating from Albert Lea High School in the class of 1940. Elsie was active in the Hayward 4-H and brought many projects to the Fairs, including her Minnesota State Fair  Championship  heifer.

Harold Lloyd Mueller was born the son of Lloyd and Adele (Hamann) Mueller on May 21, 1923, in McGregor, Iowa. He passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at the Guttenberg Care Center from complications following surgery.

Mary Kathleen Taylor

 

 

Mary K. Taylor, 62, of Volga, Iowa passed away Saturday, September 14, 2013, at her home in Volga. Mary Kathleen, the daughter of Aloysius and Margaret (Berns) Knipper, was born May 10, 1951, in Manchester.  She graduated from Central Community High School, Elkader, Iowa, in 1969. Mary was united in marriage with Howard T. “Tom” Taylor on March 7, 1970, in Elkader. Mary was a custodian at Central State Bank for many years and had worked at Datacom in Oelwein. She also cleaned houses and assisted the elderly in the Volga and Elkader area. For several years, she was a reporter for the Volga area for the Clayton County Register.

Lorin Henry Dettmann, 87, Monona, Iowa, died suddenly on Friday, September 13, 2013. Lorin was born on April 11, 1926, on the Dettmann Family Farm, south of Monona, Iowa, to John and Anna (Borcherding) Dettmann. He attended Pleasant Hill Country School through the eighth grade and graduated from Monona High School with the class of 1945.

Douglas Paul Berns

 

Douglas Paul Berns, 52, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, in Woodbury, MN. He was formerly from Garnavillo, Iowa. He was the son of L’Dean Berns and Sharon Berns Baumgarter, and was born May 1, 1961. Doug graduated from Garnavillo Junior-Senior High School in 1979. He also graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and worked as a CPA with several firms.

Ruby Violet Baker

 

Ruby Violet Baker, 87, of Volga died Monday, September 2, 2013, at her residence in Volga. She was born October 2, 1925, in Ute, Iowa to Almarine J. and Artie M. (Holt) Baker. She attended school in Ute.

Ruby was united in marriage to Charley Baker Sr., on May 7, 1945. Five children were born to this union.

Earl G. Whittle, 91, of Prairie du Chien and formerly of Elkader, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013, at the Prairie Maison Care Center. He was born January 16, 1922 in Elkader, the son of Clem and Elsie (Kopp) Whittle.
