Bernard Loftsgard

 

Bernard Gene Loftsgard, 84, of Clermont, Iowa passed away Monday, August 12, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa surrounded by his family. He was born June 7, 1929, in Marion Township, Clayton County, Iowa to Gilbert and Bessie (Larson) Loftsgard.  He was baptized on August 4, 1929, and confirmed on June 27, 1943 by Rev. S.J. Strandjord at the Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder, Iowa where he was a lifetime member.  He attended Marion Township Country School  and Elgin High School.  He was raised in Gunder and lived in the area his entire life.

Karen Wright

 

Karen Wright, 74, of Monona, formerly of Clayton Center, died Sunday, August 11, 2013, at the Guttenberg Care Center. She was born June 19, 1939, in rural Farmersburg, to Lester and Esther (Kliefoth) Kurth. Karen graduated from Luana High School with the Class of 1957.

She was united in marriage to John Clifford (Jack) Wright on December 12, 1958 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Garnavillo. Eight children were born to this union.

Kenneth W. Miller, 84, of New Hampton, IA died on Friday, August 2, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA.

A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton with Pastor Kevin Frey officiating.

Rev. John Joseph Walsh, 83 of Dubuque, died Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA following a short illness. Services held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 19, at All Saints Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Archbishop Michael Jackels. Burial was at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. A rosary was recited at 9 a.m. on Monday followed by a visitation at 9:30 a.m. at the church.

Duane Charles Delbert Lamker, 84, of Monona, Iowa, died Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. He was born on March 10, 1929, to Alvin and Cora (Breitsprecher) Lamker in Monona, Iowa. Duane was baptized on March 31, 1929, and confirmed on March 10, 1943, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. He graduated from Monona High School.

John LuVern Palas

 

John LuVern Palas, 59, of rural St. Olaf, died Thursday, August 15, 2013, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. He was born on July 18, 1954, in McGregor, to John and Elvera (Marmann) Palas. He graduated from Central High School, Elkader.

On June 19, 1976, he was united in marriage to Christine Heimann at Zion Lutheran Church in Clayton Center. Three children were born to this union.

Verdeen Waterman

 

Verdeen Emil Charles Waterman, 79, of Elkader, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 10, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester, Iowa.   

Verdeen was born November 4, 1933 to Martin F. and Pearl M. (Maier) Waterman in Elk Township, Iowa. He graduated from Littleport High School in 1953. He was united in marriage to Loretta Pugh on January 23, 1955, in Rockford, Iowa. To this union five children were born.

LaVera Smith VanDuyn

 

LaVera Louise Smith VanDuyn, 87, of Littleport, Iowa, died on Sunday, August 4, 2013, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home.  She was born on November 18, 1925, in rural Littleport, the daughter of Edward F. and Helena Wilhelmina Dorothea ”Minnie” (Nightingale) Hakert.  LaVera was raised in the area and attended Littleport rural school.  She was confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church in Littleport.

Violet Ornellia Landsgaard Thompson, 85, passed away on July 12, 2013. A memorial service will be held on August 10, 2013 at Saint Andrew Christian Church in, Olathe, KS at 3 p.m. A private interment will follow at a later date in Springfield, MO.
