WillaDean Ann (Lamphier) Kaeser, 81, of Decorah, lA, formerly of Waukon, lA, died on Thursday, January 1, 2015, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home, in Decorah, lA, following an extended illness.

WillaDean was born May 5, 1933, in Elkader, Iowa to Willis and Nellie (Landis) Lamphier. WillaDean married Neil Nelson on August 24, 1949, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.  WillaDean worked as a sales clerk, line worker at the plating and wiring plants and also at Swiss Valley Cheese in St Olaf.   In addition she cleaned homes and business in Elkader Iowa. The job she loved the most was working at a greenhouse.

Donald Nelson Houg, 90, of St. Olaf, died Thursday, January 8, 2015, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader. He was born August 23, 1924, in St. Olaf, to Ole K. and Clara (Nelson) Houg. Don was baptized and confirmed at Norway Lutheran Church, rural St. Olaf. He was educated at St. Olaf Public School, Elkader High School and Elkader Junior College.

During WW II, he served in the Army Air Corp in the C.B.I. Theatre in India as a crew member on a B-25 bomber.

Eleanor Mae Scheffert, 97, Monona, Iowa, died Monday, December 29, 2014, at the Great River Care Center, McGregor, Iowa. Eleanor was born on February 26, 1917, in rural Elkader, Iowa, to Malcolm and Mae (Fritz) Guyer. She attended country school and graduated from Elkader High School in Elkader, Iowa. Following high school, she received her teaching certificate and taught country school for a short time.

Eldon Earl Walz, 77, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, died on Saturday, December 27, 2014, at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home.  

Visitation was from 3-7 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2014, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Strawberry Point, Iowa, where there was also a 7:00 p.m. scripture service.  Friends also called one hour before the mass at the church on Tuesday.

Victor H. Schneider, beloved husband and father, went to his heavenly home on December 19, 2014, at the age of 82. He was born November 3, 1932, the second child of Paula Ruth (Daugs) Schneider and Victor E Schneider at their home in Elkader, IA. He attended elementary and high school in Elkader. He was very active in football, basketball and baseball. He attended Luther College for two years and then went on to Iowa State University at Ames, IA where he received a BS degree in structural engineering.

Donald “Jim” J. Hyde, 76, of New Albin, IA, formerly of Dubuque, IA, died Wednesday, December 24, 2014, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, December 31st, at 11 at the Edgewood City Cemetery, Edgewood, IA. Friends called from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the New Albin Community Center in New Albin, IA. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon handled the arrangements.

Ronald Mueller

 

Ronald Dean Mueller, 83, of Monona, died Thursday, December 11, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Society, Postville, Iowa. He was born on November 2, 1931, to Henry and Margaret (Ziegler) Mueller in Luana, Iowa. He graduated from Luana High School in 1949. After graduation he was drafted into the Marines on October 25, 1952. He served his country bravely in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on February 25, 1954.

Allan Ray Meyer, 60, of Manchester, formerly of Elkader, IA, died Wednesday, December 10, 2014, at his daughter’s home in Manchester, IA. He was born on December 29, 1953, in Guttenberg, the son of Gerald and Marcella Meyer.

Allan received his education locally and spent many years working on the railroad. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, reading books and watching westerns.

Darlene Koster

 

Darlene Sue Koster, 82, Elkader, Iowa, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2014, with her family by her side. Darlene was born on November 28, 1931, in Breda, Iowa, the daughter of A.J. and Elizabeth (Schulte) Wolterman. She spent her younger years in the Breda area and graduated from St. Bernard’s School in 1949. Darlene was a nurse’s aide in surgery at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, until she married the love of her life, Roger Koster, on June 15, 1955, at St. Bernard’s Church in Breda.
