Bernice Cathman

 

Bernice E. Cathman, 91, of Prairie du Chien passed away Tuesday, Jan. 7, at the Prairie Maison Care Center. 

She was born Oct. 15, 1922 in Lancaster, the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Hoffman) Esser. She married Cletus Cathman on Jan. 17, 1944.  Together they farmed in the Glen Haven area until Cletus’ death in October of 1987. Bernice then moved to Prairie du Chien where she became the gardener at the Villa Louis. She loved to garden and had quite the “green thumb.” Bernice was also a great cook and enjoyed crocheting.

Violet Clark

 

Violet G. Clark, 89, formerly of Prairie du Chien passed away Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, in Palatka, FL. A graveside service will be held later at the Brodtville Cemetery in Wyalusing Township.  The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.

Francis Becwar

 

Francis Joseph Becwar, 75, of Montello passed away peacefully Sunday morning, Jan. 5, at Divine Savior Hospital in Portage. 

He was born in Prairie du Chien, on Sept. 17, 1938, to Joseph and Agnes (Fritsche) Becwar. He attended a country grade school and graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1956 and later married Janice Miller at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Monona, Iowa on June 9, 1962.

Wendy Kotte

 

Wendy P. Kotte, 49, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Dec. 27, at the Mayo Franciscan Health Center in La Crosse. 

She was born Oct. 27, 1964 in Milwaukee, the daughter of Patrick and Judy (Wagner) Benish. She married Chris Kotte on Oct. 16, 1999 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien. Wendy owned and operated the Windy Cove Shops in Prairie du Chien and Platteville. She was involved as a Cub Scout den leader, parent teacher organizations along with several other volunteer groups.

Kathryn Evans

 

Kathryn M. Evans, 93, of Prairie du Chien passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. 

She was born June 29, 1920 in Mt. Hope, the daughter of Louis and Kathryn (Elliott) Degenhardt. She married Mason Evans on April 13, 1940 in Elkader, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 12, 1993. Kathryn was an active member of St. Gabriel’s Church in Prairie du Chien.

Flynt Kussmaul

 

Flynt Nancy Kussmaul passed away on Dec. 9 at her home in Sarasota, Fla. due to heart disease.

She was born Nov. 5, 1948 in Prairie du Chien to Allen and Dorris Kussmaul. She graduated from West Grant High School in 1966 and then attended 4 year at the University of La Crosse.

Mary Roach

 

Mary Ann Roach, 78, longtime resident of the Wauzeka area passed away Dec. 25, at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mary was born Sept. 30, 1935, the youngest of four children to Leo and Ruby (Rosemier) Gerlach. Her parents held a farm on Wall Ridge in Eastman for many years.

She enjoyed working with animals and planting and harvesting the crops.

Cara LaVerna Foster, 83, Postville, Iowa died Sunday, Dec. 22, at her son’s home in Ogden, Iowa. 

She was born on July 4, 1930 to Cleveland Justice and Minnie Ethel (White) McCormick in Holland, Mo. Cara graduated from Patterson High School in Missouri and attended The University of Missouri and graduated from Cape Girardeau School of Beauty Culture at Cape Girardeau, Mo. She owned and operated a beauty shop in Piedmont, Mo.

Maxine Golbach

 

Maxine A. (O’Brien) Golbach, 93 years young, and a resident of Madison, died peacefully on Monday, Dec. 23, at Agrace HospiceCare.

She was born in Antigo, on Aug. 30, 1920 to Martha (Soman) and James O’Brien. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Henry Golbach. 

She is survived by children Mark Golbach (Linda Brazill), Marsha Belisle (Joe), Brian, Sara, Elizabeth, and Gregory Golbach; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
